What are they doing now?

Gala was a student at Western Washington University and a research assistant for the Institute for Global and Community Resilience from February to June 2008. As an intern, she participated in research and was responsible for office duties. She assisted in the analysis of the IGCR’s business recovery survey for the December 2007 flooding in Centralia and Chehalis.

During her time at Western she attained a membership with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She was a Planning and Policy Major; Disaster Reduction and Emergency Preparedness, and Geology minor. With an affinity for the science of natural hazards, the knowledge of reducing the impact of these hazards on communities was complimentary to her interests.

Gala graduated in spring 2008. She entered the federal workforce through the Federal Career Intern Program in 2009 and has since been hired as an Emergency Management Program Specialist for FEMA. In this position, she assists in the design, evaluation, and conduct of emergency exercises and engages in a wide range of other duties related to emergency management.
