Jonathan is a Senior Associate in Readiness and Capacity Development for the Disaster Services department at the American Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, DC. He works on the Performance Improvement team who handle disaster training, leadership and guidance development.  In his role, he does technical writing and communication by disseminating disaster services internal communications, resources and guidance from national headquarters to the field units and chapters.

The summer following graduation from WWU, Jonathan began a position as an American Red Cross Presidential Intern in DC, where he provided project management support to 150 chapter recipients of a 5 million dollar external corporate foundation grant to increase disaster readiness and capacity.  In this position, he analyzed metrics, compiled best practices, managed finances, measured project impact, and developed and wrote the midterm donor report.  After completing the summer internship, he continued his work with the grant by completing the final donor report and closing out the grant, and was then hired for his current position.

 

Jonathan graduated with a BA in Planning and Environmental Policy with a track in  Disaster Reduction and Emergency Planning (DREP) at WWUs Huxley College of the Environment.  He was the 2008-2009 research assistant at the Institute for Global and Community Resilience (now the Resilience Institute).  As a research assistant, he provided support for staff and faculty through research, administrative tasks and technical writing.  He was involved with several projects, including school safety and educational continuity, WWU sustainability timeline, Guatemala urban disaster risk reduction project with Oxfam, among others.
