Japan: Asia University
Asia University (AU) is located in Musashino City in western Tokyo. Musashino City has a population of approximately 140,000. It is situated in a quiet, natural environment and is only 20 minutes by train from the central part of Tokyo.
Academic Program Description
Asia University's "Intensive Japanese Course"(known as Bekka) is a program designed primarily as an intensive language study. It is recommended that students have some previous Japanese language experience or instruction. The curriculum consists of about 27 hours per week of Japanese Language instruction, Japanese studies during the second semester, and field trips. Students take a combination of Bekka (Semester 1), and Japanese language study, elective courses, and research (Semester 2). Housing
Exchange students live in one of Asia University's two dormitories for international students, the International Women's Hostel or the International Men's Hostel.
Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum 2.5 GPA with completion of at least 30 credits at WWU by beginning of exchange
- Application approval by a selection committee
Application Procedure
- Complete Asia University Application Form and additional materials
- Complete International Programs & Exchanges Study Abroad/Exchange Application and submit with a statement of purpose
- Pay IPE application deposit
- Application will be approved by a committee before the nomination is forwarded
- Once accepted, Asia University will notify WWU of acceptance
Visa Application
- Once accepted, Asia University will apply for a Certificate of Eligibility on behalf of student applicants. The Certificate of Eligibility and Admission Certificate will be sent to IPE for the students
- To obtain the student visa, students take the Certificate of Eligibility and Admission Certificate, along with their passport to the Japanese consulate. Students must have a passport, visa, and Certificate of Eligibility to enter Japan

- Fall quarter/Academic Year: March 1st*
- Winter/Spring quarters: June 1st*
- Late applications considered on a case by case basis.
- * If the deadline occurs on a weekend, applications will be accepted on the following Monday.
