Newcastle is located in New South Wales, two hours north of Sydney and on the southeast coast of Australia. With a population of 468,000, Newcastle is a down-to-earth Australian city with a temperate climate (similar to central California coast), casual lifestyle, and located just minutes away from spectacular beaches, waterways, wineries and forests. The University is well known for its academic excellence, research programs, and innovative teaching.
Academic Program Description
Over 20,000 students attend the University of Newcastle. The university offers 5 Faculties: Business and Law, Education and Arts, Engineering and the Built Environment, Health, and Science and IT. Courses across a wide variety of disciplines include: architecture and building; arts and humanities; business; commerce; design; economics; education; engineering; fine arts; food technology; health sciences; law; management; mathematics; medicine; music; nursing; science; and social science. The Central Coast campus, nestled in a bush hillside, offers a tranquil environment and is situated halfway between Newcastle and Sydney. Modern facilities are set in an intimate campus layout.
Academic Year Schedule
The academic year at the University of Newcastle is divided into two 14-week semesters with a five-week break between each. An enrollment and orientation week for international students is held just before the beginning of each semester.

Housing
The university offers single-room accommodation at five residence halls with meal plan options or self-provision. There is both on and off-campus housing available. Detailed information is sent to all students once they have accepted an offer of admission to a program. An Accommodation Officer will assist in finding suitable housing.
Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum 2.5 GPA with completion of at least 30 credits by beginning of exchange
- Completion of at least one year of study at a college or university
- Application approval by the IPE committee

- Winter/Spring quarters: June 1st*
