F-1 Employment
On Campus Employment
Your F-1 student status permits you to work on campus at WWU up to 20 hours per week while enrolled in a full course of study, and full-time between quarters and/or during your annual vacation quarter, provided you have an I-20 issued by the WWU and are in good academic standing.
On-campus employment includes:
- Employment for WWU, for example, as a teaching or research assistant, or in the library.
- Work performed on campus for a commercial firm providing direct services to students, for example, Dining Services.
- Employment at an off-campus location which is educationally affiliated with WWU. The educational affiliation must be associated with your academic departmentŐs established curriculum or related to contractually funded projects at the post-graduate level, and be an integral part of your educational program.
There are several ways to find an on-campus job. The Center for Student Work Experience web site, http://www.finaid.wwu.edu/studentjobs/ lists many, but not all, jobs available on campus. In addition, many departments post job openings at their offices. Or, talk with your friends, and visit the departments where you are interested in working.
On-campus employment is not permitted after you complete your studies. If you are transferring schools, you may work on campus only at the school having jurisdiction over your SEVIS record and I-20.
