Club History

The Western Washington University Judo Club was started in the early 1980's by sensei Joel Carlson, who moved on from the Bellingham area after several years.

In 1987, sensei Mark Glaser started to attend WWU and immediately re-registered the club as an Associated Students club. Consistent judo practice times and locations have allowed the club to perpetuate leading up to the present day.

In 1989, the club applied and was accepted into the WWU Sport Club Council. As a member of the council, the WWU Judo Club received many benefits, among them funding, campus facility usage, and Campus Recreation services related to council members. Coupled with these benefits are responsibilities to WWU Judo Club members and the elected representatives to the council.
