Western's Leadership Scholars receive a scholarship during their first year of study at Western. These scholarship recipients, identified by the Office of Admissions, enroll in LDST 100: Leading Responsibly during fall term. These students also benefit from priority registration for the LDST 101: Introduction to Leadership Studies during winter term.

Western's Leadership Scholars share their experience in LDST 100.

LDST 100: Leading Responsibly is an introduction to and exploration of the concept of responsible leadership, including selected virtues and factors that contribute to leading and following with integrity. Through this course, incoming Western's Leadership Scholars have the opportunity to complete a service learning opportunity, listen and dialogue with several academic deans on ethics and leadership, listen and dialogue with leaders from various industries on ethical dilemmas in the workplace, and complete an inventory outlining the individual student’s character strengths to bring to their campus leadership learning and experiences. In addition, the scholars learn about leadership studies, ways to develop as leaders on campus, and various leadership opportunities that are available to them as WWU students.
