The Department of Mathematics has over 20 tenured faculty and over 20 contract faculty whose interests extend over a wide range of topics in applied and pure mathematics, statistics and mathematics education. We are currently establishing an undergraduate major in statistics. Besides our primary focus on undergraduate instruction, we offer a Masters program in mathematics with about 20 students. The Department of Mathematics is a highly diverse unit and encourages applications from diverse candidates.
Western Washington University has about 650 faculty and 15,000 students. It is located in Bellingham on a hill overlooking Bellingham Bay. Bellingham, a city of approximately 80,000, is a physically and culturally active, environmentally friendly family community with access to good schools. Its proximity to Seattle (90 miles), Vancouver (55 miles), the ocean, mountains and lakes, provides access to many recreational opportunities as well as metropolitan facilities and major research institutions.
