About me

Rea Pineda

My name is Rea Pineda and majoring in environmental science at Western Washington University. I am one of eight nationally selected students in to be a part of the 2012 Multicultural Initiative in Marine Science: Undergraduate Participation (MIMSUP) program (funded by the National Science Foundation). For the last six months I have been living, taking classes and doing outreach and research at the Shannon Point Marine Center in Anacortes, WA. I am working with Brian Bingham, studying symbiosis in the temperate anemone Anthopleura elegantissima. MIMSUP has been one of the best experiences of my life. It has provided me with amazing opportunities to grow as both a scientist and as a person. I strongly encourage students who have an interest in marine science to apply to the MIMSUP program.
