Large Ensembles
Western's Music Department welcomes ensemble participation by students of all academic majors and places performers solely by audition. In addition, applied lessons are available on a space-available basis to non-majors who participate concurrently in a large ensemble.
University Symphony Orchestra
This full symphony orchestra is an auditioned ensemble performing the greatest symphonic repertoire of the past and present, as well as an annual conerto concert featuring student soloists. Western's Symphony was recently honored with a performance at the All Northwest MENC Convention.

Small Ensembles
Chamber Music Ensembles
These small ensembles ranging from string quartets to wind/brass quintets to flute and brass choirs perform in quarterly concerts and receive weekly coaching from the applied faculty.
Percussion Ensemble
Comprised of all students in the percussion area, this ensemble has performed at percussion festivals throughout the Northwest, commissioned new works for percussion, and collaborated with the Western Dance Program in creating new works for dance and percussion.

Collegium Musicum
These mixed instrumental and vocal ensembles perform chamber music of the Baroque and pre-Baroque periods with an emphasis on historically informed performance practice.
