American tenor EDWARD COOK made his debut in the 1988-89 season at the Metropolitan Opera as Froh in Das Rheingold. Since then, he has thrilled audiences throughout Europe and America with his performances of the Heldentenor repertoire.
Mr. Cook's repertoire spans more that twenty roles. He has received wide critical and public acclaim for his performances of Siegfried in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, Siegmund in Die Walküre, Parsifal in Parsifal, Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer, Max in Der Freischütz, Samson in Samson and Delilah, and Hansin Die Verkaufte Braut, among others.
He has guested in many German opera houses, including the Theater & Philharmonie Essen, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Hessisches Staatstheater Darmstadt, Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin,
Staatstheater Braunschweig, Städtische Bühnen Nürnberg, and the Wuppertaler Bühnen.
In addition to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, Mr. Cook has also sung in the United States with the Greater Miami Opera, the Dallas Opera, and the Fort Worth Opera.
Mr. Cook appeared at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England as Florestan in Fidelio. At Teatro Dell'Opera di Roma, at the Teatro Regio in Turin, and in Tokyo, Japan he sang the role of Orestes in Iphigenie auf Tauris
Mr. Cook's orchestral engagements have included numerous performances of Beethoven's
Ninth Symphony, Beethoven Mass in C with the San Francisco Symphony, Der Fliegende
Holländer with the American Symphony Orchestra, Die Walküre and Act III of Tristan
und Isolde with the Minnesota Orchestra, and the world premiere of Echoes of
Normandy with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
In 1997 he sang the role of Siegmund in Die Walküre with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (Edo de Waart, conductor) . The 1996-97 season also included Siegmund in
Die Walküre, and Siegfried in both Götterdämmerung and Siegfried at the Theater
und Philharmonie Essen, as well as both Siegfrieds in Den Norske Opera's production
of the Ring Cycle in Norwich, England.
In the fall of 1998, Mr. Cook made his debut with the State Opera of South Australia
(Jeffrey Tate, Guest Conductor) as Siegfried in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung in
Australia's historic first ever Ring Cycle.
Mr. Cook is equally at home on the musical theater stage having his early experience in summer-stock theater starring in such musicals as My Fair Lady, Take Me Along, She Loves Me, Damn Yankees, Of Thee I Sing, 1776, Music Man, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown and many more. In addition, he has written, directed, and performed for three highly successful dinner theaters in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Indiana.
Mr. Cook has been on the cover and the subject of the feature interview of the prestigious German opera magazine Orpheus.
Recent highlights include appearances as Siegfried in both Siegfried and Götterdämmerung (with Hildegard Behrens as Brünnhilde) with the Münchner Philharmonie, and as Tambourmajor in Wozzeck at Teatro Comunale di Bologna (Danielle Gatti, conductor).
Mr. Cook may be heard on compact disc as Siegmund in Die Walküre and as Siegfried in Götterdämmerung on the Bella Musica and Brilliant Classics labels.
