Chuck Israels is a composer/arranger/bassist who has worked and recorded with Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock, J.J. Johnson, John Coltrane, and many others. He is best known for his work with the Bill Evans Trio and for his pioneering work in Jazz Repertory as Director of the National Jazz Ensemble. He is now the Director of Jazz Studies at Western Washington University in Bellingham and is a guest composer/director with various European jazz ensembles and orchestras as well as a frequent performer with the Barry Harris Trio. Prof. Isreals has made many recordings with the Bill Evans Trio and has released "The Eindhoven Concert," a CD of his orchestral compositions and arrangements with the Metropole Orchestra and Claudio Roditi (Azica Recordings AJD 72206), and quartet recordings "The Bellingham Sessions, Volumes 1 and 2 " on Audio Ideas (ai-cd-011, ai-cd-013).
