PE Activity Course Class Information

Activity courses are dependent upon instructor availability. PEHR majors will have first access during the appointment period of Phase 1 of registration. The general student population will have the opportunity to register for any remaining spaces after the appointment period of Phase 1 as well as during Phase 2 and 3.

  1. How do I learn about course content or obtain a class description?

Contact PEHR office staff for a copy of the course syllabus

(Kate.Kairoff@wwu.edu or Rebecca.Schindler@wwu.edu).

  1. How can a student get into a filled or closed section?

The Registrar's Office has instituted a system in which you can indicate your wish to be wait-listed for a specific class. Students add and drop during all phases of registration. When there is an opening, the Registrar's Office will send you an e-mail to let you know and to give you a time-specific opportunity to register for the class. HOWEVER, IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CANNOT MISS MORE THAN TWO (2) CLASSES DURING THE QUARTER. IF YOU REGISTER FOR THE CLASS AFTER THE FIRST DAY , ANY CLASSES YOU MISSED WILL BE COUNTED TOWARD THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ABSENCES YOU ARE ALLOWED. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO ANY CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE REGISTERED IN THAT CLASS!

  1. Can the course be repeated for credit?

No.  We encourage you to take another one of our Activity courses if you need or would like the college credit.  If not, there are many opportunities for recreational fitness and sport activities through the Wade King Recreation Center and WWU Sports Clubs.

  1. Last day to add a class.

Attendance is critical to the Activity Courses.  If you register late, whether or not you were on the Registrar's wait-list, any classes missed will be counted as absences. Please see comments above regarding registering in a filled or closed section.

  1. Can an absence be made up?

NO!  Should there be what you think is an extenuating circumstance, you must contact the PEHR Department, Carver 102.  A physician's note or an official leave of absence from the University will be required for all attendance policy exceptions (See personal physician, Student Life Office, VU 506, or Student Health Center). You will be required to attend additional classes to make-up any classes missed as detailed in your official physician or university documentation should you be beyond the absence limit. If absences beyond what is allowed for the specific course cannot be made up by the end of the quarter, then an incomplete grade contract will allow you a full academic year to make-up missed classes.

  1. How can a student dispute a 'U' grade?  What is the procedure?

Your instructor will issue a 'S' or 'U' grade based upon your attendance, class participation, written final examination, physical skill assessment, and any other grading criteria established on the course syllabus.  If you wish to dispute a 'U' grade, you will be required to contact the instructor directly.  The PEHR office staff can provide you with an e-mail contact address.

  1. When a class is cancelled, can students still use the facility for the class activity?

NO.  For liability reasons, all activities in Carver Gym require supervision.

  1. How can a student contact a Activity Course instructor?

You can contact the instructor via e-mail upon your request OR the PEHR office staff can either leave a message for your instructor or contact him/her directly.

  1. If I drop a class, will I receive a refund on the additional class fees paid?

Yes, but only if you drop the class during the full refund period as specified by the Registrar's Office, typically during the first five days of the quarter.

  1. Do I have access to a locker if I have registered for an Activity class? How and where do I go to obtain one?

YES.  Your instructor or the PEHR office staff can direct you to either the Men's or Women's Equipment center in the locker room areas.  Lockers are free to all students enrolled in Activity courses.
