PE 100 level Activity Class Information

Activity courses are dependent upon instructor availability. PE and KIN majors will have first access during phase I of registration. The general student population will have the opportunity to register for any remaining spaces by phase II of registration.

  1. How do I learn about course content or obtain a class description?

Contact PEHR office staff for a copy of the course syllabus

(Kate.Kairoff@wwu.edu or Rebecca.Schindler@wwu.edu).

  1. How can a student get into a filled or closed section?

Keep trying to register throughout the registration time period.  Students add and drop during all three phases of registration.  Attend the first class as scheduled in the timetable.  Many times there will be students who decide not to take the course but have not dropped yet.  There may be space available.  Only each individual instructor can make that determination.

  1. Can the course be repeated for credit?

No.  We encourage you to take another one of our 100-level courses if you need or would like the college credit.  If not, there are many opportunities for recreational fitness and sport activities through the Wade King Recreation Center and WWU Sports Clubs.

  1. Last day to add a class.

Because PE 100-level courses are activity based, attendance is critical.  You must enroll within the first two weeks of classes.  If you register late, all classes missed will be counted as absences.

  1. Can an absence be made up?

NO!  Should there be what you think is an extenuating circumstance, you must contact the PEHR Department, Carver 102.  A physician's note or an official leave of absence from the University will be required for all attendance policy exceptions (See personal physician, Student Life Office, VU 506, or Student Health Center). You will be required to attend additional classes to make-up any classes missed related to your official physician or university documentation should you be beyond the absence limit. If absences beyond what is allowed for the specific course cannot be made up by the end of the quarter, then an incomplete grade contract will allow you a full academic year to make-up missed classes.

  1. How can a student dispute a ‘U’ grade?  What is the procedure?

Your instructor will issue a ‘S’ or ‘U’ grade based upon your attendance, class participation, written final examination, physical skill assessment, and any other grading criteria established on the course syllabus.  If you wish to dispute a ‘U’ grade, you will be required to contact the instructor directly.  The PEHR office staff can provide you with an e-mail contact address.

  1. When a class is cancelled, can students still use the facility for the class activity?

NO.  For liability reasons, all activities in Carver Gym require supervision.

  1. How can a student contact a PE 100 Level instructor?

You can contact the instructor via e-mail upon your request OR the PEHR office staff can either leave a message for your instructor or contact him/her directly.

  1. If I drop a class, will I receive a refund on the additional class fees paid?

YES, definitely. The funds get transferred back into your student account per University policy.

  1. Do I have access to a locker if I have registered for a PE 100 Level class? How and where do I go to obtain one?

YES.  Your instructor or the PEHR office staff can direct you to either the Men’s or Women’s Equipment center in the locker room areas.  Lockers are free to all students enrolled in 100-level activity courses.
