Physical Education, Health & Recreation

Welcome to the Department of Physical Education, Health and Recreation. We offer degree programs for students interested in professions related to kinesiology, P-12 physical education and health, community health education, and recreation.

Kinesiology and Physical Education Program

The Kinesiology Program provides concentrated study of human movement from developmental, mechanical, motor control, psychosocial, psychological, pathological and physiological perspectives. This program is appropriate for students who plan to work in the fitness/exercise industry and can serve as a preparatory program for graduate or post-baccalaureate study in the areas of aging, auxology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, health/fitness, motor control/learning, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, or similar allied health programs, and sport psychology.

Community Health Program

Western's Community Health program is recognized as one of the leading undergraduate programs in the Northwest The major offers a curriculum for students interested in careers in health education and health promotion with one of five settings: community, school, worksite, college/university and/or medical/clinical. Western's program is designed to prepare students for the examination to become a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

Recreation
Program

Nationally accredited, the Recreation Program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreation and Leisure Services. The major offers concentrations in tourism, community recreation, outdoor recreation, and therapeutic recreation.
