Comments and Questions from Listening Session with Bruce

CFPA Dean's Office

The college is the public face of the university because of the PAC Series, the sculpture collection, gallery, etc.  The community gathers at the PAC and gets their perceptions of the campus. Concern with that image given issues regarding maintenance of the outdoor sculpture collection and maintenance of the building itself.

Community relationships with schools are enhanced by the educational matinee programs offered free by CFPA.

Accessibility is an issue due to parking or the cost of the program.  Concern that people don’t come to Western for lesser known programs because of parking issues.

Consider combining DLS/PAC Series into one program.

Funding is an issue in order to maintain quality programming.

Need to attract a quality dean who will stay and be a strong leader for CFPA.   Dean turnover has impacted CFPA.

Lack quality, state of the art facilities.   Would like to see major renovation to bring facilities up to date with video, sound and lighting.

WWU has a unique opportunity to take advantage of CFPA and make it a “crown jewel” at WWU, and at the state and national level.

Teamwork in the Foundation is needed.

The natural beauty of the campus can be improved upon.

Hope that the armory can stay on the priority list.

Grand pianos need to be replaced.

Concern about diversity in CFPA.  Not diverse because low income students can’t afford to take the lessons and conservatory training necessary to be competitive.

Dirty windows on campus are unattractive but we can’t afford to hire the extra staff to keep them clean.
