Professional Staff Award for Excellence
2011 winner: Devlin O'Donnell
Coordinator of CASAS, Prevention and Wellness Services
Devlin O'Donnell has worked in the field of violence prevention in Whatcom County since 2001 and been the Coordinator of Crime and Sexual Assault Support Services (CASAS) since the fall of 2006.
As CASAS coordinator, Devlin provides support for students after a traumatic event by responding to calls, offering individual meetings, and facilitating quarterly support groups. She also helps survivors access all available resources, including everything from assisting students through medical appointments and incident reporting, to attending hearings and completing protection order applications.
Devlin also coordinates the Women's Empowerment and Violence Education and the Men's Violence Prevention peer educator groups, which facilitate violence prevention programs in residence halls and across campus. She also trains hundreds of student leaders each year on how to recognize abusive behavior, bystander intervention tips, and how to support and refer survivors.
