Veterans Services: Policy on Military Withdrawal
Any person who has been called to extended military duty and is required to withdraw from the university will be given special consideration as follows:
- Withdrawal during the first third of the quarter: no credit; full refund of tuition and fees.
- Withdrawal during the second third of the quarter: receive S/U grade; one-half refund. The department concerned will determine applicability of such credit. (If arrangements for half credit with S/U grades cannot be made, student may request withdrawal and full refund.)
- Withdrawal during the last third of the quarter: receive full credit and letter grade; courses specified. Student must arrange with instructors on submission of final grades.
- A student required to withdraw during his or her final quarter before obtaining the baccalaureate degree may be granted the degree if approved by the dean of his or her college, major department, or if in teacher education, the College of Education.
- Veteran students who re-enter the university no later than one year after discharge will be guaranteed a place at Western.
- No re-entry fees will be charged to re-entering veterans who return to Western no later than one year after discharge.
Students who are called to active duty should notify the Registrar's Office immediately upon receiving orders so that assistance can be provided in making all necessary arrangements for withdrawal and full tuition refund, or in the case of late-term call-up, awarding of grades and credit.
