Flood research opportunity for students
The Institute has received a small $2000 Quick Response Grant from the Natural Hazard Center. This grant will be used to document and analyze small business disaster impact and recovery from a significant flood event in Western Washington. One potential site for research is the Chehalis River valley, in southwest Washington, which recently experienced severe flooding. See the Institute’s blog site, Bounceback, for recent postings about this event. The institute seeks students interested in being part of this research. You would be trained to carry out a damage assessment and small business survey, and be part of a team to drive down and administer the survey over a 1-3 day period.
Please contact Rebekah Green, Rebekah.green@wwu.edu or (360) 650-4337, for more information. College students from Huxley College and the DREP track at Western Washington University are especially encouraged to apply. Internship credit or class project credit may be available. There may also be opportunities for interested students from other colleges and universities.
