All calls for proposals described below will be distributed via email to all faculty, via Western Today, and posted here.

Faculty

  1. Summer Research Grants

    This program is provides faculty with up to $6000 to engage in projects that will result in significant advancement of their professional development and field of research, scholarly or creative work. The Research Advisory Committee makes funding recommendations to the Vice Provost for Research.

  2. Summer Teaching Grants

    This program is provides faculty with up to $6000 to engage in projects that will result in significant advancement of instruction. The Faculty Development Grants Committee makes funding recommendations to the Vice Provost for Research.

  3. Manuscript preparation

    Please use the Mini Grants/Manuscript Preparation/Publication form to request support for manuscript preparation and/or publication. Limited funding is available at the discretion of the Vice Provost for Research.

  4. Discretionary support (formerly referred to as mini-grants)

    Use the Mini Grants/Manuscript Preparation/Publication form to request support outside of the scope of the peer-reviewed internal grant programs described here. Limited funding is available at the discretion of the Vice Provost for Research.

  5. University Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activities (URSCA)

    This new program will replace and augment the previous Grant-in-Aid, Pilot Project, and Project Development Awards.

Students

  1. Undergraduate research

    This program provides encouragement for undergraduate students to engage in research/scholarly/creative work with faculty in their disciplines. Up to $1000 per project may be proposed, and approximately $30,000 total is available annually from this fund. Any equipment acquired using award funds remains University property. The Research Advisory Committee makes funding recommendations to the Vice Provost for Research.

  2. Graduate research

    Graduate student research awards assist students in accomplishing the research/scholarly/creative work required by their degree program. Up to $2000 per project may be proposed, and approximately $60,000 total is available annually from this fund. Requests should be relevant to the student's research/scholarly/creative work and which are not already available to the applicant through their academic department or college. Any equipment acquired using award funds remains University property. The Research Advisory Committee makes funding recommendations to the Vice Provost for Research.
