Scientific Technical Services

Scientific Technical Services (SciTech) enhances teaching and research by providing technical support to students, faculty, and staff for a wide variety of teaching and research activities. SciTech operates the University Instrument Center, machine, electronics, and woodworking shops.

The University Instrument Center is a multi-user facility equipped with a variety of advanced analytical equipment. Instrumentation, laboratory space, and associated supplies are available to support students, faculty, and staff for both research and teaching. SciTech staff provides training and consulting services for the use of instrumentation and assists with classroom and laboratory demonstrations.

The machine, electronics, and woodworking shops provide many services to Western's campus community including the design, manufacture and repair of academic, scientific, and supporting equipment.

SciTech provides training for instrumentation and selected shop equipment to interested individuals or groups in support of classroom, teaching, and research activities. Training is provided to faculty, staff, and students involved in ongoing research projects using the Instrument Center facilities. Training is also available for graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants who use instrumentation in instructional laboratories.

In celebration of student scholarship and creativity SciTech will be holding a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Digital Image Competition and Exhibition during Scholars Week. The competition and exhibition will showcase work students have done using the WWU SEM.
