2014 Scholars Week Banquet Keynote Speaker:

Radha S. Hegde

Western is proud to welcome Radha S. Hegde to Scholars Week 2014! Prior to her career in academia, Hegde worked as a journalist in India. Her international experience has allowed for incredible research in media and cultural studies. During a sabbatical from New York University in 2008, she traveled to India to study changes in the Indian labor force and its global and national influence. In Circuits of Visibility: Gender and Transnational Media Cultures Hegde presented a collection of essays that discuss the global relationship between media, gender and sexuality. Currently working on Mediation Migration, Hegde will examine the connection between migration culture and technology.

Radha S. Hegde was previously the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Media, Culture and Communication at New York University and is a recipient of the Steinhardt Teaching Excellence award. Radha Hedge works on the editorial board for many journals in media and cultural studies. She is a founder of Manavi, a South Asian women's rights group that works to protect South Asian women from violence.
