My most recent research examined how students change and what they learn as a result of participating in semester long study abroad programs.  Having accompanied students to China, Trinidad, London and Jamaica, I wanted to document some of the amazing learning that occurred outside of the classroom, as students adjusted to life in different cultural settings.  My previous research looked at various aspects of gender, work and family. I am interested in how people negotiate work and family roles and how these issues change over the lifespan, as well as the impact of gender on people’s life experiences.  I have also conducted outcome and process evaluation research for social service agencies in King and Pierce Counties, helping them assess their effectiveness and improve their programs.  My dissertation research was a case study of an innovative program designed to intervene in sexually abusive families.
