Campus Friends
What are Campus Friends?
WWU students who are matched one-on-one with Asia University America Program (AUAP) students for the purpose of cultivating international friendship.
How do volunteers help?
The Campus Friends Program has been designed to help AUAP students meet other students at WWU, to introduce AUAP students to American culture, and to give AUAP students an ongoing opportunity to practice their English conversation skills.
What are the requirements to volunteer?
Participants must be WWU students and must agree to abide by AUAP policies while acting as a volunteer. Studnets should also have a desire to spend time introducing an international student to American culture.
Do you train volunteers?
A 20-minute training session is held at the beginning of the Campus Friends Gathering, an intial gathering where students are introduced to each other. Then we host various events and activities that students can attend together.
How many students volunteer?
Approximately 100 WWU students are involved each year.
What makes volunteering for Campus Friends special?
It is really up to each individual to make the most of this experience. After the Campus Friends Gathering, students are expected to schedule meetings with their campus friend on their own. This provides a lot of flexibility for volunteers.
