Parents’ donations fund important student services
WWU families donated more than $215,000 during the Parent Annual Giving Campaign this year, enhancing the budgets of the Career Services Center and other important programs.
The funds raised in 2007-2008 also contributed to the Leadership Advantage Program and other programs not supported by tuition.
“This fund supports important ongoing programs and can provide the start for new initiatives,” said Anna Carey, director of New Student Services/Family Outreach.
The Career Services Center offers workshops, career fairs, job and internship search services and much more.
The emerging Leadership Advantage Program is an opportunity for students with strong leadership potential to learn about and practice their own skills and mentor other students on leadership.
Donations from the nearly 2,400 families fund other academic and multicultural programs, scholarships, clubs, the arts, athletics and new campus resources.
About half of the money came from families who pledged during a phonathon staffed by students who called parents of juniors and seniors fall quarter and parents of sophomores and transfer students in winter.
