Largest-ever gift to Woodring funds scholarships
Woodring College of Education recently received a $1 million scholarship endowment from the estate of Mildred Bain, a retired teacher.
The endowment, which could fund up to 30 new scholarships per academic year, was the largest single gift to Woodring to date, said Mike Henniger, associate dean.
Bain, who passed away in 2007, graduated from Western in 1942 and worked as an elementary and middle school teacher for more than 40 years, retiring from the Seattle Public School District.
The Mildred M. Bain Scholarship will be awarded to students preparing to be teachers, based on need and academic performance.
