Flu season: Pack TLC kits for away-from-home cold care
This year’s flu season may hit harder than others, with the resurgence of H1N1, the so-called “swine flu.”
So be sure to pack some supplies to help students suffer through their first cold away from home, including a good digital thermometer, some fever-reducing medication such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen, tissues and hand sanitizer, advises Dr. Emily Gibson, director of WWU’s Student Health Center.
Students who come down with the flu may be asked to go home to recover, if possible, instead of staying in residence halls and infecting other students.
The Student Health Center is also preparing to offer immunizations for both seasonal flu and H1N1 flu, when they are available.
Meanwhile, Gibson is monitoring H1N1 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and will communicate with families as news is available. Click here to see the CDC's flu page.
