More on how to get an internship
More stories:

What are you doing in your internship?
What's great about my internship is that a lot of the work I do is based on my own interests and strengths. I've been able to talk to my internship supervisor throughout my internship and figure out projects for me to do that will help me develop new skills and improve on others. So far I've been able to design, take photos, make videos, write stories and work on social media for the University.
How did you find it?
A friend of mine had my internship a couple quarters before me, and after talking to her, it seemed like a great fit for me.
Why did you want this internship?
One of the biggest perks of this internship is the convenience and flexibility. To graduate on time this spring, I had to finish my internship before June, and with my busy schedule, interning at the university has been great since I can schedule my own hours, and make it fit into my schedule.
How can students get the most out of an internship?
Students should just push themselves to try new things. One of my projects was to revamp Western's Tumblr, and in doing it I taught myself some HTML coding which is something I probably would have not done on my own.
How does this internship relate to your studies?
I've been able to practice pretty much everything I've learned in my classes here at my internship whether its designing a brochure, making a video profile, or taking photos. It's been an awesome experience to be able to improve on these skills with a hands-on experience.
Any advice for families of students regarding internships?
Look everywhere, and ask friends what they have done. It never hurts to apply either, even if you don't get it — there are a ton of internships out there, and you are bound to find the right one for yourself.
