97% of water is salt water, 1.76% is frozen. Only 0.008% of the world’s water is able to be used by us.
Western Washington University gets its water from the Lake Whatcom Reservoir
and uses an average of 85,853,666 gallons of water per year!
As a student of Western Washington University, I pledge to support an institutional movement towards zero waste in all forms by incorporating the four following measures into my lifestyle.
- Make a commitment to lower my shower time to be between 5-8 minutes. (A 14 minute shower in the Residence Halls uses roughly 17.5 gallons of water!)
- Turn off the sink faucet when it is not needed.
- Do not buy bottled water; instead use a reusable water bottle.
- When washing laundry, make sure that each load is a full load.
