Go For The Green Challenge, Winter 2008

Go for the Green: Total Waste Reduction Challenge
The second annual Go for the Green: Total Waste Reduction Challenge was a huge success! All residence halls on campus participated, resulting in a combined reduction of energy consumption by 20.4% over winter quarter. This amounted to a savings of $17, 500 and over 275,000 pounds of CO2 from entering our atmosphere. Eco Reps working in the residence halls spent countless hours going door to door to their fellow residents to gather pledges to reduce their consumption of water and reduce their waste production. More than 1200 residents signed on to both the water and waste pledges. Natural gas consumption decreased by 1.7%, saving more than $1,400. Residents conserved over one million gallons of water over the entire challenge. This is a percentage reduction of 9.09, equaling a savings of more than $7,000.
