Catherine Riordan

  • Acting, innovating, contributing and leading in support of sustainability at WWU.
  • Engaging in collaborative efforts between campus departments and/or between WWU and the surrounding community.
  • Bringing about observable or measureable changes to areas within the campus community.

This award was presented by Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Catherine Riordan.

Rich Van Den Hul
  • Promoting sustainability in operations through projects, programs or innovative solutions.
  • Creating a work environment that incorporates sustainability practices.
  • Inspiring co-workers and others throughout the campus community to participate in sustainable behaviors.
  • Acting, innovating, contributing and leading in support of sustainability at WWU.
  • Engaging in collaborative efforts between campus departments and/or between WWU and the surrounding community.
  • Bringing observable or measureable changes to areas within the campus community.

This award was presented by Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs, Rich Van Den Hul.

2012 Award in Student Life

Ethan Glemaker
  • Promoting sustainability through studies, research or other student-initiated projects.
  • Inspiring students and others in the campus community to live more sustainably.
  • Demonstrating leadership in a project, organization or student club that has made a significant contribution to environmental sustainability and/or social equity.
  • Acting, innovating, contributing and leading in support of sustainability at WWU.
  • Engaging in collaborative efforts between campus departments and/or between WWU and the surrounding community.
  • Bringing about observable or measureable changes to areas within the campus community.

This award was presented by Associated Students President, Ethan Glemaker.

2012 Award in Lifetime Achievement

In addition to these three annual award categories, the selection
committee added an award in Lifetime Achievement.



This award was presented by University Communication Director, Paul Cocke.

Awards Ceremony Keynote Speaker: Alison Gannett

Dale

Alison Gannett is an award-winning global cooling consultant, World Champion Extreme FreeSkier, and founder non-profits, including the Save Our Snow Foundation. In addition to her busy careers as an athlete and her keynote speaking work, she runs KEEN Rippin Chix which are women's steep skiing, biking and surf camps around the globe.

Alison is an advocate of walking the talk of sustainability, and has cut her own carbon footprint in half, including growing and raising almost all her own food on Holy Terror Farm in Paonia.

  • She has been Ski Magazine's Ski Hero of the Year
  • Was named one of the 48 greatest skiers of all time by, Powder Magazine
  • And National Geographic named her a Woman Adventurer of the Year
  • She was also Outside Magazine's "Green All-Star of the Year", next to Leonardo DiCaprio and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
