2010 ACUPCC Annual Report

The 2010 annual report released by the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment provides an overview of participating schools that are creating and implementing comprehensive plans to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions from their campus operations. Also integral to these plans are activities that promote education, research, and community engagement and contribute to creating a low-carbon economy and a healthy, just, and sustainable society.

Solar 4R Schools: Western Washington University

Solar 4R Schools educates students, teachers and community members about the science and benefits of renewable energy technology. In 2008, WWU became the first university in the Solar 4R School program and is continuing its dedication to the project. This website provides a detailed live report of the amount of energy Western is using.

Parlez-Vous Green Campus?

Parlez-Vous Green Campus documents and celebrates campus sustainability efforts around the globe, particularly outside the US and Canada. With the rise of activism on issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, renewable energy technologies and water scarcity, colleges and universities have mobilized themselves as key agents of change — both on campus and in the larger society.

Ban The Phonebook

In an effort to ban the printing of the white pages phone books, WhitePages.com is funding a $10k research grant for an in-depth overview of the true impact that the production, distribution, and disposal of the phone book has on the environment. Paddle For Sustainability

Paddle For Sustainability is an Environmental Education graduate field project by WWU Huxley Grad, Marc Van Grinsven. His website features episodes of his "epic paddling trips" across the North American continent. The vision/mission statement of his project says it all: Through personal challenges and commitments, we, and with everyone we encounter, will strive to educate and facilitate behaviors that will renew environmental respect and sustainable citizenship.

Resilient Farms Nourishing Foods (Gigi Berardi's Blog)

Gigi's courses and programs at Western Washington University's Huxley College of the Environment include ecogastronomy, agroecology, sustainability and rural development, environmental toxins, environmental studies, and the popular Food Studies in Europe program. Gigi currently is coordinating the Resilient Farms Project. She has several decades of experience in lecturing on health and diet, and is excited to combine her experience in homesteading with her longtime interest in nutrition and cooking. Her blog features her insight on the Slow Food movement, projects she is working on, recipes, and more!
