Our tennis team is actively involved with the community!
This year, we have the privilege to work with the Boys and Girls Club of Whatcom County. Each week, we meet at the Boys and Girls Club and help lead tennis activities. We have really enjoyed getting to know the children and being able to spread our love of the tennis game.
On January 14, during the Viking Showdown, we hosted an event for about 30 kids ages 7-11 from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellingham and Ferndale as well as some kids from the Bellingham Tennis Club. We paired the kids with a club player to help coach them and inspire their confidence as tennis players. The event was a resounding success and we hope will foster amazing tennis is Whatcom County.
In April, we hope to host a big event at the Western tennis courts for around 70 kids from the community and really get kids interested in a sport which we are very passionate about.
In 2011, we also participated in the WWU Relay For Life at Western's track to raise money for breast cancer awareness and the American Cancer Society. The Relay was student ran and as a whole raised over $80,000 to continue to fund the hope for a cure.
We welcome any suggestions or events that will make our team a more integral part of the great community of Whatcom County!
