Summer Youth Theatre Institute (SYTI) 2009
What is SYTI?
Now in its fourth year, the Summer Youth Theatre Institute (SYTI) is a fun program for all ages that provides an opportunity for local community youth to collaborate with their peers, learn from WWU Drama in Education students, and PERFORM theatre in public showcases! This year also features the opportunity for participants of the secondary level SYTI program to perform with their SYTI leaders in “Schoolhouse Rock Live!”
Important Dates and Information
- Elementary SYTI (Entering Grades 1-5)
- June 22 - July 3
9:00am to Noon, Monday-Friday
Showcase Performances* on July 3 at Noon and 7pm
Registration (all-inclusive): $250
- June 22 - July 3
- Secondary SYTI (Entering Grades 6-12)
- June 22 - July 10
1:00pm to 4:00pm, Monday-Friday
Showcase Performance* on July 10 at 7pm
Registration (all-inclusive): $350; additional $50 if participating in "Schoolhouse Rock, Live!"

All showcase performances are free and will be held in the Old Main Theatre.

Evan Crane
Evan is very excited to be starting his second year at Western Washington University. He was last seen in Western's production of La Cage Aux Folles. He is extremely excited to work with the SYTI kids. |

Jana Gueck Jana is a junior at Western Washington University. She is majoring in theatre with a double concentration in acting and theatre education. She has been a camp counselor at Camp Coleman as well as a party attendant at pump it up.

Margaret Johnson
Margaret Johnson is a theatre major at Western Washington university with a concentration of acting. After she graduates fall quarter she plans to move down to Seattle to further her acting career. She is excited to be apart of Schoolhouse Rock, Live! |

Dave Lyon Dave is finishing a Master's degree in music at Western Washington University (conducting emphasis). He will be Music Director for Schoolhouse Rock which will be his fifth musical this year. |

Desiree McKenzieSullivan Desiree McKenzieSullivan is a Junior at Western majoring in Theatre Education. She is looking forward to the experience she is going to have with SYTI this summer, and is glad to be helping others learn just how awesome theatre can be. |

Jennifer Moore Jennifer is a senior theatre education major at Western. She enjoys teaching young people to think and live artistically. Her hobbies including painting, reading and eating tofu. |

Kim Moore Kim Moore is a senior at Western Washington University with a concentration of theatre management. She has been stage managing for 6 years and most recently worked on She stoops to Conquer. She is looking forward to being a part of School House Rock and can't wait to have a great time this summer! |

Rachel Morrissey Hi, my name is Rachel Morrissey I am a senior and hopefully graduate soon. I am a costume designer and children's education major. The first play I eve saw was the Wizard of Oz when I was 5 with my mum and I fell in love with theatre. I hope to help kids find the fun and magic of theatre. |

Kelsey Rider Kelsey is extremely excited to be participating in Westerns Youth Theatre Institute. She recently wrapped up a tour with MOTley crew, which ignited her love for children's theatre. Kelsey is in her senior at Western Washington University and when she's not working with kids she enjoys acting in film projects. She loves felines, the color purple and a tall soy hot chocolate from Starbucks. |

Skyler Scott Skyler is a senior at Western, who is majoring in theatre with an emphasis in directing. For three years Skyler was the managing Director of Center Stage for St. George Musical Theatre located in Southern Utah. There he taught musical theatre courses to hundreds of students K-12. In 2005,Skyler was one of the only eight students nationwide to be honored by the Kennedy Center American Theatre Association with the Best of Festival Award for his portrayal of Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde in Dixie State College's production of Jekyll and Hyde. |
