The Multicultural Outreach Tour (MOTley)

The WWU Multicultural Outreach Tour (M.O.T.ley) is celebrating its 11th Anniversary Tour in the spring of 2013! A fun, lively and educational project, MOTley tours every MWF in April and May and reaches approximately 7500 elementary-age students, teachers and staff each spring. The tour is a literature-based, all-school assembly, 1-hour performance of a collection of stories from different cultures, countries and ethnicities focused around a chosen theme for that particular year. Some past themes have included Heroes, Collaboration, Friendship, Wisdom, Origin Tales and Honesty. The students in the tour audition in the fall, spend the winter researching the folk tales and building the show and then takes it out three times per week to various school in Whatcom, Skagit, Nooksack, and Island Counties. The teachers and staff of each school are given a list of stories and where to find them as well as curriculum support materials if they so chose.

We are excited to share that two years ago was the first tour to have a WWU student in it whose first theatrical experience was having MOTley come to their school!

2103 MOTley Cast

Meet the 2013 Cast!

Ali Salvino

Ali Salvino

Hi there! My name is Ali and I am part of the 2012-2013 MOTley Team. I'm sophmore majoring in Psychology at Western and am native to the busy city that is Seattle. I like improv and theatre and have done both as student productions at Western and professional shows at theaters like the Bagley Wright and The Rep in Seattle. BLT's are my favorite sandwich and if I can't be a criminal psychologist my back up plan is a Lion Tamer in a circus.

Bowen Morrison

Bowen Morrison

My name is Bowen and I'm a senior at WWU where I am majoring in theatre. I love to pretend and run around and be silly. If I were a food I would probably be teriyaki salmon because it’s really good and its good for you.

Brian Allyn

Brian Allyn

My name is Brian and I am a sophomore studying computer science with a minor in theatre. I have always loved performing for younger children. If I were a type of food I would be cheesecake.

Cassandra Leon

Cassandra Leon

Hey everyone! I'm Cassandra and I am SO excited to be a part of the 2013 MOTley crew! Theatre is what I jive on and I am fluent in both English and Spanish. My last name means "lion" in Spanish, and I live up to it through my fierceness. I love sandcastles in the sand, going to the mall, and beavers, and if you put a pizza in front of me, I'll be your best friend forever.

Chris Quilici

Chris Quilici

Chris is one of those guys who might still be a kid on the inside. He's currently a sophomore studying Theatre Arts with a concentration on Acting, but he'll always be the boy who was born within miles of Disneyland and loves everything about stories and their telling. On a side note, if he was a sandwich, Chris would likely be a Philly Cheesesteak. With extra carmelized onions.

Danela Butler

Danela Butler

I am from Seattle, WA, but I live in Bellingham, WA, and am currently attending Western Washington University. I am in my fourth year and am majoring in Theatre and minoring in Communications. My hobbies include acting, singing, dancing, and writing poetry. I am beyond excited to be a part of Motley because I am a child at heart and I love this opportunity to work with young children in expanding their imaginations through the performing arts.

Kari Ekrem

Kari Ekrem

I am currently majoring in the undecided realm of education. If I could, I would major in goofiness and proper use of imagination. If I were a sandwich I would be a slim six from Jimmy John's because it’s my favorite. Provolone cheese and bread. YUM.

Karissa Elliot

Karissa Elliot

Hey! I'm Karissa, and I'm a sophomore majoring in Theatre and Graphic Design. I love cats, making friendship bracelets, going on snipe hunts, and acting silly onstage. I'm super excited to be performing with MOTley!

Marissa Wyll

Marissa Wyll

I am currently pursuing a double major in Biology and Theatre. My favorite dinosaur is a pterodactyl and if I had to be a method of transportation, I’d want to be a spaceship.

Michael Lotham

Michael Lotham

My name is Michael and I'm a sophomore at Western Washington University. I have been performing theatre since I was 5 years old. If I were a type of food I would probably be a watermelon.

Olivia Ponzetti

Olivia Ponzetti
