Performing Arts Main Stage

The Mainstage Theater in WWUs Performing Arts Center has been hosting performances for the Bellingham Community since the early 1950s. The 1,080 seat proscenium hall continues to present a wide variety of events from cutting edge original drama to classical dance and from musical comedy to contemporary popular music. The space boasts a full counterweight rigging system; a 40 x 35 performance area with generous wing space; a large automated orchestra pit; ample dressing room facilities; up to date lighting capability; and true state-of-the-art sound and projection systems. Western is also very proud to be able to exhibit a number of the newest additions to its nationally recognized art collection in the theaters lobby area. The staff of the PAC is made up of seasoned professionals who are able to help make any event a success whether its a simple lecturer or a touring Broadway musical.

Old Main Theatre

Old Main Theatre

Old Main Theater is the most venerable of the CFPAs facilities. The main portions of Old Main were completed between 1896 and 1907 as Bellingham Normal School. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The addition which houses the theater was part of a renovation which took place in 1971. Old Main Theater has a 30 x 11 proscenium arch, a high quality sound and projection system, and versatile lighting capabilities. The space seats 200 audience members for theatrical productions, dance performances, films, and lectures. During the summer months the theater also plays host to the Summer Youth Theatre Institute.

Underground Theatre

Underground Theatre

The Underground Theater is a small black box performance space which is designed to encourage artistic exploration by students and faculty in the Department of Theatre and Dance. The Underground is a flexible space accommodating up to 104 audience members depending on the configuration. The space is provided with an ample supply of power and dimming capability and includes an inventory of conventional and modern energy efficient lighting instruments. The Underground encourages an atmosphere of intimate exchange between artist and audience.

Carver 60

Carver 60

Carver 60 is a 1500 square food dance studio located in the Carver Gym Complex. The studio bathed in natural light and is furnished with a Harlequin Allegra dance floor, full length studio quality mirrors, and a full complement of permanent and portable ballet barres. The room contains playback equipment and an upright piano for accompaniment. Carver 60 also has a Dance Conditioning room furnished with Pilates Springboards and Arc Barrels.

PAC 16

PAC 16

PA-16, or the Choir Room, is the newest of the performance venues in the Performing Arts Center. As departments within the CFPA have grown so has the need for spaces in which to perform. As with other spaces in the PAC this room serves many functions. It is a well equipped classroom with excellent sound, projection, and lighting capabilities to accommodate small performances. The Recent addition of elegant black curtains allows the room to transform into a semi-formal recital hall or performance space.
