Commuter Stories
Patricia Ashby
Riding the bus to work feels good, says Patricia Ashby, manager of the Associated Students Child Development Center. "When I take the bus I'm living what I profess my values to be."
Ashby was a transit rider in Seattle before she came to WWU three years ago, and she appreciates the courtesy of WTA drivers. "We have the nicest bus drivers in the world" she says. "They wait for you to get to your seat and give you time to get to the door at your stop. Buses usually run on time, too".
"I bused all the time my first year here" Ashby said. "Then I got a parking permit and got lazy. This year I'm sharing a car with my daughter and got a bus pass again. Winning the December Smart Commuter drawing was a great reward for doing the right thing!"
Smart trips are trips to work, school, errands or leisure made by bike, bus, on foot or by sharing the ride. By logging her bus trips to work at www.whatcomsmartrips.org, Patricia is eligible for discounts, cash prizes and other rewards. She also won the prize in December's Sustainable Transportation smart commuter drawing, a $25 AS Bookstore gift certificate.
