Commuter Stories
Tim Springstead
WWU Plumber / Pipe fitter Tim Springstead loves the new WTA 28X. He figures switching to riding the bus to work saves him $40 a week on gas and driving expenses, giving him a $1 an hour pay raise. Tim lives near Ferndale and switched from driving every day to riding the 70X in 2006, when gas prices started to climb. The bus ride took longer than driving, which meant that when he had a meeting in the evening, he’d drive that day. The 28X has changed that. Tim says he can drive from WWU and get home at 5:10, or catch the 28X and get home at 5:12. He drives about 3 miles to the Ferndale Park & Ride, and on occasion still rides the 70X, which stops about a mile from where he lives.
It takes a little planning, but Tim is riding the bus and taking it to the bank!
