Peer Subject Tutor Job Description


Title: Peer Subject Tutor (Tutor 2)
Reports to: Tutoring Center Coordinator
Salary: Starts at minimum wage; this pay rate is within the Level 2 pay range as established by the Student Employment Center.


  • Strong GPA (3.0 or better) in tutoring application area
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups
  • Strong interest in training and skills development
  • Available to work at least 6 hours per week during the academic year.
  • Competence in WWU math courses through at least Pre-calculus II
  • Preferred: competence in second subject area (see list of TC tutoring areas below)
  • Preferred: cumulative WWU GPA of 3.0 or higher


  • Staff the TC as a content tutor during assigned hours
  • Develop a full working knowledge of all information required to tutor in specialty areas
  • Participate in TC outreach activities and provide appropriate referrals to related campus resources
  • Participate in TC staff meetings and training sessions, including:
    • Approximately 2 hours per week of training during fall quarter
    • Two full days of training during week one of fall quarter, before classes begin.
    • Half-day staff meeting on the first Saturday after fall quarter classes begin
