Telecommunications Services (Telecom) employs a full time staff of two data/telephone technicians, two data network engineers, four Telecom Analysts, and two telephone operators. Telecom also uses temporary student help in technical and operator positions as needed.
Telecom is responsible for providing and maintaining services to campus for:
- PBX , Nortel 81C Telephone Switch
- All telephone instruments for the users
- Data network routers and switches (approx. 600 pieces of equipment)
- Telephone and data network infrastructure, approximately 5,800 active telephone connections, 13,700 active data connections, and 5,700 unassigned data outlets
- Wireless Computing, IEEE 802.11b/g (approx. 150 access points)
- Cable Television System, academic and residences
- Cell phones and pagers (approx 300 devices)
- Telephone operators
Telecom is responsible for the copper and fiber cabling terminations in approx 170 equipment rooms and closets around campus. However, Telecom is not responsible for the actual cabling between the buildings equipment rooms and closets, which is provided and maintained by Facilities Management to Telecom specifications.
