Western Crossing Development

Western Crossing Development is a non-profit corporation that was organized by Western Washington University and the Port of Bellingham in 2009 to develop a waterfront campus area for WWU.  It received its Certificate of Incorporation from the State of Washington Secretary of State on October 7, 2009.

On August of 2008, Western’s Board of Trustees and the Commissioners of the Port of Bellingham approved the development of an Inter-local Cooperation Agreement between WWU and the Port that allowed for the creation of a “development entity.”  The first organizational meeting of what was previously named Viking Development was held on September 11, 2009.

Western Crossing was formed to acquire, lease or sell property, to erect and maintain building, to take gift of real or personal property, to seek and accept financial donations, and to do any and all lawful activities needed for the purposes of the corporation.

The board of directors is made up of the President and a member of the Board of Trustees of WWU, the Director and a member of the commissioners of the Port of Bellingham, and a fifth board member who is appointed by a majority vote of the other four board members.

The annual meeting of the board of directors is held on the first Tuesday of May at 10 a.m.  Special meetings may be called at any time and place upon the call of the Corporation’s President, Secretary or any two directors.
