Inviting, Engaging, Distinctive and Collaborative

Alisyn is most certainly a team player and is always willing to step in to help for the greater good. An example of this was just the other day we both met up on the bus looking exhausted and stressed about what was ahead of us. We shared our struggles and by the end of the conversation, she offered to help with my work load knowing full well that her plate was already extremely full. She is committed to Western and its mission, and is always willing to go above and beyond.

During the last 6 years she has also taken on the role of mentoring interns and practicum students for the Woodring ECE program. Jessie Payne

Program Coordinator, Financial Aid

photo

Recognized for being:
Inviting, Engaging, DistinctiveCollaborative and Adventuresome

I met Jessie Payne when I first arrived to Western during an EPAF training course. She came over and volunteered to sit with me and help me enter in the music students that had been hired by my predecessor. After the class she walked out with me and told me about the opportunity I had available to hire work study students to the Music Department at no cost to my budget. From that moment on I started advertising for student employees that qualified for works study. Anytime I had a glitch, I called Jessie who helped me get students on lists, checked on funding, grades, eligibility, and heard me out when I described their situation and assisted me with any and all of my concerns. The Music Department has transformed because of this one person! We never had any of our concerts video recorded, or photos taken, and now we have wonderful student employees who work around the clock documenting and sharing on social media all of the beautiful music that is being produced by our students. She has been a tremendous resource to the Music Department and I wanted to publically thank her for all of her hard work.

I hold the utmost respect for Gabe. His positive outlook and inquisitive nature are undeniably contagious. He is one of the most caring and dedicated individuals you will ever have the pleasure of crossing paths with. He has a strong sense of commitment to his colleagues, but most of all to the students of WWU. Gabe can often be found meeting with students in the Learning Commons or off-campus with those in the Extended Education program. Both when he is at home and running in and out of his office, Gabe monitors the online chat service for Western Libraries whenever he has a free moment. His unparalleled dedication is demonstrated in the way he strives for (and achieves) a high standard of excellence in everything he does. I can’t think of a better person to be recognized for their exceptional service to Western Washington University. I am pleased to have this opportunity to not only recognize Gabe Gossett for all that he does, but to thank him for the impact he has made on my experience as a student at Western. His efforts certainly do not go unnoticed.

It doesn't matter how many concert programs she has to do, and it doesn't matter how many tasks I ask her to help me with during her shift, she always gets the work done. I call her the hardest working person I know. She engages people who come to the office and I learn more about the people through her one conversation then in my (sometimes years) of knowing them. She is very supportive of faculty, staff, students, me...especially when we strive to push ahead, make a radical and positive change, she cheers us on. Patty's warm character is both curetous and maternal, sparking positive interactions throughout the office with everyone who comes by. Her whimsical and curious nature lends itself to making those around her feel important and heard. Patty goes out of her way to consistently push herself to learn to improve efficiency outside of her job description. I love her.

Barb Lewis is the person that welcomed me and trained me for my current position. She has always been respectful and helpful in her training and never overwhelmed me with too much information at one time! She is very competent and respected by many people on campus for her furniture purchases. When new employees need furniture she is right there with her tape measure and notes to make sure they get exactly what they want. She is always going "above and beyond" to make departments happy with their purchases. She also thinks "outside the box" in how Western can have a leading edge in interior design and technology by attending vendor tradeshows and exhibits. Not to mention she does her best to save the University money while still adding value to her purchases. She cares for people and their personal situations and would never compromise someone's personal life to make things better for herself. She is humble, bright and very intelligent. She is one of the reasons I'm here and appreciate her very much!

I can't think of anyone on this campus who is more willing to go the extra mile. Chuck helps to build valuable relationships which are sometimes difficult in an organization as siloed as a university. Such relationships, and the trust and social capital that is built as a result, are vital to making the university a healthy working environment.

Inviting, Engaging, Distinctive, Collaborative and Adventuresome

Stacey was one of my first contacts in my new position; she did many things to make me feel welcome, both in spirit and in practical actions. She was never too busy to explain something, show me where something was, or assist me, even when she was doing three people's jobs at the same time. She is loyal to the unit and to Western. Stacey takes care of everybody's needs, including organizing our birthday celebrations! I was surprised when I first noticed how much Stacey knew about how things operate and the details of process and systems; she is truly a person with insightfulness and high comprehension--often observing but then thinking things through from all sides.

Hands down Cole exemplifies what good customer service means. I enjoy that he shares his wisdom and is a pleasure to work with. I am no longer afraid to use TEM knowing that I have Cole as a resource. I have never gotten off a call with him without having my issues resolved with a side of great education!

Tim McLaughlin

Operating Systems Manager, Technical Services

Recognized for being:
Inviting, Engaging, Distinctive, Collaborative and Adventuresome

Tim is the behind the scenes guy that not many people know. He handles a lot of the system account creation and management. Tim always looks for efficiency for new implementations and improvement of old processes. He collaborates with others using a 'common sense' approach. Without his dedication to these processes and utilities, the job of account automation and management would be a much larger burden on the Technical Services department.

Engaging, Distinctive, Collaborative and Adventuresome

Countless times students remark that "Nancy is why I'm in the program." Students who come to the Huxley Peninsulas program are non-traditional students and require unique attention. Nancy encourages, supports and advocates for these students each step of the way. As the face of Western Washington University to many individuals who
never set foot on campus, Nancy exemplifies WWU in the best possible light: as a caring institution which delivers excellent degree programs.

Kaylee is always positive. She encourages even small steps towards improving one's health. She is one of the kindest individuals I know - always looking out for the best interest in all her students. She is a wonderful role-model as someone who practices what she preaches. She has a tremendous talent for remembering each individual's strengths and weaknesses and when to challenge and when to ease up. She is an asset to WWU and I would guess all those in her classes would strongly agree.

June is one of the most welcoming and positive people that I have ever met, starting during my interview at Western and it has continued during my time here! June is always willing to help anyone in need, be it a student, staff member, or parent. More than anyone I have ever met, June embraces the Western Way in every aspect of her life!

Cole's service to the university end-users has been the silver lining in the otherwise challenging transition to the new TEM system. While the transition has been fraught with questions and a pretty big learning curve, Cole always answers his phone with a cheery voice, a positive attitude and a willingness to help and answer any question, no matter how many times he has probably heard it. I'm sure I'm not alone in my experience or in my appreciation and I think Cole is the very definition of the "Western Way".
