Victor Nolet, Ph.D

Western Washington University




Victor. Nolet a Professor in the Secondary Education Department in the Woodring College of Education at Western Washington University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in 1992.. Dr. Nolet’s scholarship addresses the inclusion of education for sustainability in the preservice preparation of teachers. Currently, he is Co-Director for a project funded by the Russell Family Foundation to investigate strategies for bringing sustainability education in preservice teacher preparation to scale nationally.  This project is a partnership with Facing the Future.  Dr. Nolet’s work also addresses state and federal policy pertaining to teacher education and the development of sustainability literate teachers.  He is on the executive committee for the K-12/Teacher Education Sector of the U.S. Partnership for the U.N. Decade for Sustainable Development and serves on the steering committees for the Curriculum for the Bioregion, and the Washington Sustainable Design projects as well as the .  Dr. Nolet served as a Senior Research Consultant for the Educational Policy Reform Research Institute and has published numerous research articles, monographs, book chapters, and co-authored books about data-based decision making and evaluation of student outcomes. His article “Preparing Sustainability Literate Teachers” was recently published in Teachers College Record.  He frequently teaches courses in evaluation, assessment, and educational research and is a founding member of the Sustainability Academy at Western Washington University.
