Energy Services Performance Contract (ESCO)

This project was initiated In order to advance Western's sustainability goals and reduce our carbon footprint. The project will implement 38 separate facility improvement measures in various academic and auxiliary buildings identified by an energy audit of Western's campus. It includes lighting controls, energy efficient lamps, additional insulation in attic spaces, upgrades to existing heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and controls, and water conservation measures in 23 academic buildings, Wade King Student Recreation Center and four residence halls (including both Fairhaven Academic and Fairhaven Residence Halls).

Academic Buildings

  • Academic Instructional Center (East and West) - water conservation
  • Art Annex - lighting in corridors and studios, occupancy sensors and relamping, water conservation
  • Administrative Services - lighting in corridors and private offices, occupancy sensors and relamping, water conservation
  • Arntzen Hall - lighting in corridors, private offices and classroom, occupancy sensors and relamping, water conservation
  • Biology - water conservation
  • Bond Hall - HVAC in classrooms and lecture halls, mechanical spaces, water conservation

  • Wade King Student Recreation Center - water conservation, lighting controls in the gym, pool, upgrade rock wall lighting, HVAC in the 3 court gym and MAC gym

There should be minimal impacts to campus operations. Work is planned to be accomplished during unoccupied hours. Brief shutdowns of ventilation systems can be expected and will be scheduled well in advance.

Start and Completion Times: Design and construction will begin mid November 2011; scheduled completion is June 2013.
