The Department of Sociology maintains a number of datasets for research and information purposes. Major data sets include the longitudinal prospective panel National Survey of Families and Households (NSFH) and the General Social Survey. The university is also a member of ICPSR (see below). In addition to maintaining these data sets, the Demographic Research Laboratory maintains a number of demographic datasets. All departmental data sets are available for students to use in their research. Student research must be conducted with the facilitation and approval of a faculty member. Students planning on applying for admission to a doctoral program are strongly encouraged to complete a research project utilizing a major data source prior to preparing their application materials.
