BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University Professor of Music Roger Briggs will conduct “A Colorful Musical Journey” at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall.
The multicultural symphonic concert will be presented by the Pacific Northwest Cultural Exchange Council, and will feature the Xin Xing symphony orchestra.
“There will be Chinese folk instruments, a cello concerto, a wonderful soprano and tenor from China, a violin concerto, erhu (a two-stringed Chinese instrument) concerto, and so much more,” said Stephen Hegg, who featured two of the musicians on KCTS 9 TV. “Think of a sumptuous banquet with the best food from four countries; this will be the music equivalent.”
In addition to serving as the concert conductor, Briggs’ recent work “Symphony No. 2” will be featured in the concert.
Briggs serves as the Composition area coordinator for Western’s Department of Music and is conductor emeritus of the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra.
Tickets for the concert range from $38 to $100 for general admission and $20 for students. Tickets are available through Benaroya Hall at (206) 215-4747 or at http://www.benaroyahall.org.
