BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University will offer Web Design and Development Level II: WordPress Next Steps, an 11-week course beginning April 3; participants will explore advanced WordPress concepts.
Information sessions will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Western’s Academic West Room 305 and 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12 at Western’s Academic West Room 305.
Students will focus on more advanced WordPress models such as custom page templates, custom post types, the use of template tags, using custom queries, and using The Loop to control the presentation of content. By the end of the quarter students will have designed a custom WordPress theme from the ground up, on their own hosting account.
This course is ideal for people who envision themselves starting their own business; marketing products online; designing, developing or maintaining one or more websites; simply want more advanced web and WordPress management skills; or who are seeking employment and career skills in a web-design field. As a prerequisite, students must be comfortable editing web documents in HTML and CSS. Students should also be familiar with basic WordPress publishing.
The course is a hybrid course with weekly face-to-face sessions and corresponding online resources and assignments. This course also provides the option for participants to earn two optional Western credits.
