Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Training

University President Sabah Randhawa

University President Sabah Randhawa

At Western, we are united in the belief that racism, bigotry, and hate have no place here or in our society. We are committed to a university culture that is based on respect, kindness, and compassion, where we acknowledge and value the uniqueness and dignity of each member of our community.

While Western has made progress in our efforts to increase equity and inclusion, we recognize that there is still much work to do here and the world around us. The most significant way we can acknowledge and correct past and ongoing injustices is by accelerating the rate and scope of systemic change in our communities, institutions, and within ourselves.

As a university community, we can support this much needed change by informing ourselves, which is why we are requiring this training for all students. As a member of the Western community, you too have a shared responsibility to advance a university culture that is equitable and inclusive. I invite you to take time to really sit with the information in this training, and consider how you can apply it in your life and interactions with others. Thank you for giving these critical issues your time and attention, and for helping make our commitment to increasing justice and equity a reality.

Yes. Western is requiring all students, including graduate students, to complete this training.

The training is designed so that you can complete it in multiple sittings. It is divided into smaller mini-segments, or modules. You can complete a module in about 5 to 10 minutes. As long as you complete a module in its entirety, you will be able to log back in later and begin with the next module.

After you complete Part 1 of the training, you must wait 15 days before you can complete Part 2. The training is designed to see what you know before you take it, and the post-assessment in Part 2 checks your understanding after you have had time to process the material. This pre- and post-assessment helps Western to determine if the courses are effective. Part 1 and Part 2 are both mandatory.

If you do not complete the training by the deadline, a hold will be placed on your account, which will prevent you from registering for classes for the next quarter.

The hold can only be removed after you complete the training. The hold will automatically be removed the morning after you finish the training.

If you need the hold lifted the same day you finish the training, you will need to contact us directly at 360-650-7319 or everfi@wwu.edu. Holds can only be removed same day from 9am to 4pm.

Due to the number of students requesting hold removals and other services, we cannot guarantee we will be able to respond to your request immediately. The only way to ensure the hold will be removed in time for class registration is to complete the course at least the day prior to your registration time.

If the hold is on your account longer than 24 hours after completing the training, please contact us at 360-650-7319 or everfi@wwu.edu.
