Reports/Announcements:

STF Renewal Representative

Steve Ross announced David Bover would no longer be able to be the representative for the STF Renewal Committee.  Steve volunteered to take his place.

Update on Active Directory Domain Policy Review

John Lawson reported on the Active Directory Domain Policy.  The directory acts as a network manager for computers with Microsoft operating systems.  Lawson warned that although Active Directory can be very powerful and provide opportunities for special features, it is also very dangerous.  A few years back, a document was sent out regarding the policy for how the university deals with Active Directory in the system.  Views regarding the document quickly changed and it was suggested that the policy be reviewed.  The policy has yet to be updated and one of the colleges suggested taking action.

Approximately every two weeks, a committee meets to discuss Active Directory management.  The committee is more than willing to work with the colleges to satisfy their needs; however, it is important that the colleges wanting change attend these meetings.  This is a very sensitive issue and the committee takes great care in its decision making to avoid adversely impacting others.

STF Proposal Review Strategy

Bob Thomas reported a total of 21 proposals were submitted for the STF Review.  Ten of the proposals were for lab upgrades so the ATC has decided to review and rank the remaining 11 proposals in January.  Steve Ross proposed a revised schedule for the ATC meetings in January.  The committee approved the schedule.

On January 14th, the ATC will meet to review the proposals.  Each ATC member will be assigned a proposal to speak about.  An additional meeting will be held, on January 21st, to answer any questions that arose in the previous meeting.  Finally, on January 28th, the ATC will vote and rank the 11 proposals as well as prepare commentary to submit to the STF proposal review committee.

Budget

As reported last week, the University is looking at a 2.28% total one-time reduction in base funding.  Lawson announced this equates to a $145,129 reduction for IT.  He explained the budget cut will result in less money to upgrade servers, implement new programs, and plan new development.  The Governor’s budget is set to come out this month and several revenue forecasts will follow thereafter.  The President has asked that, in order to prepare for the coming year, we plan for a 3.8%, 5% and 10% reduction of base funding.  Lawson stressed the importance of restructuring and prioritizing to better fulfill the mission of the university.

Blackboard

The problem with Blackboard’s student drop box function was, once again, discussed.  The cause of the problem was investigated and is, most likely, an issue with the browser

Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 4:53 PM.
