Degree Works for Advisors, Faculty, and Staff
Degree Works is a web-based tool designed to help students and advisors track students’ academic progress toward the completion of their degree or certificate. Degree Works helps to track degree progress, prepare for future courses, and plan for graduation.
Degree Works is designed to aid and facilitate academic advising, but is not intended to replace face-to-face advising sessions.
Degree Works is undergoing testing and is not yet open to the campus community. If you are a faculty or staff member and would like to request access to the system, please email your request to Degree.Works@wwu.edu.
Degree Works is available for students beginning with the 2016-17 catalog year. A student's catalog year is set upon admission or declaration for their program of study. Degree Works is programmed back to the 2016-17 catalog year. If a student is currently registered in a catalog year prior to 2016-17, they may continue to access the prior degree audit system known as CAPP. Click here for more information on CAPP.
- Provides a clear picture of program requirements to help students navigate the most effective path to graduation.
- Uses checklists to easily monitor a student’s academic progress.
- Helps students plan their class schedules by showing what courses and requirements are still needed.
The Plans feature allows students and advisors to create a long-term academic plan containing a list of recommended courses for the student to take and the sequence and quarter in which they are to be taken. An audit can be run against the plan to see if it will lead the student successfully to graduation.
Notes provide advisors a tool to help track conversations with students and document any action that has been agreed upon. Notes in Degree Works may be viewed by all advisors, which will be helpful should the student decide to switch their program of study or speak with other advisors.
Students and advisors are able click on a course still needed in their audit and a window will open listing the course description and sections of that course that are being offered in an upcoming quarter. The student will be able to see the CRN for each section, open seats in real-time, and the days and times the course is being offered.
The What If feature allows students to see how changing their major or minor will impact their progress to degree completion.
The Look Ahead feature allows students to enter a list of classes and see where they might apply on the degree audit. With Look Ahead, students can see how a course will fit into their program of study before they actually register for it. This feature is a great tool to use as part of the registration process.
Degree Works offers three different GPA calculators: graduation, term, and advice. The calculators will help students set realistic goals at the beginning of the quarter, or provide a path for achieving honors, avoiding probation or meeting personal academic goals.
