Through this admissions program, eligible seniors at participating high schools are directly admitted to Western — no application and no fee required. No uncertainty. Just a straightforward path to a four-year college degree.

Students who do not meet the requirements will not be offered admission through this program. However, they are still encouraged to apply to Western through the regular admissions process, where their application will receive full consideration.

Program Eligibility Requirements

  • High school students with a 2.75 GPA or higher
  • Must meet Washington State high school graduation requirements
  • Currently attending a high school located in one of these counties:
    • Island County
    • San Juan County
    • Skagit County
    • Snohomish County
    • Whatcom County

You don’t need to wait! We encourage you to apply to WWU whenever it works best for you. Applying early gives you the chance to receive an admission decision sooner, hear about scholarships and financial aid earlier, and secure priority consideration for housing.

Yes! The Western Guarantee is a two-year pilot program, so you’ll remain eligible to apply with the simplified admissions form during that time.

Yes! Home school students are included if they are registered with a public school district within Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, or Whatcom County.

This program applies only to eligible high school students within Island, San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom counties enrolling at the Bellingham campus at this time.

You received a Western Guaranteed Admission offer because your academic preparation suggests that you may be eligible for this program. Western works with schools and state partners to share information about college opportunities and to make the admissions process more transparent and accessible for students.

We’re starting with a pilot program focused on supporting students in our immediate region. This allows us to build strong connections locally and create a model we can learn from as we consider future expansion.

While admission doesn’t automatically include financial aid, on admission, you’ll have great opportunities to apply for scholarships and access other forms of support. You can find more information at the scholarship site. You may qualify for the Washington Grant and access to state and federal aid is available through FAFSA or WASFA. Submitting your final high school transcript ensures you can receive federal financial aid before you start at Western.

Yes! Students admitted through the Western Guaranteed Admissions Program are still eligible for Direct Admission to Majors. After you receive your admission notification, we’ll ask for your major selection so we can get you into the right program.

No. Your admission will not be revoked if your GPA drops. If this happens, we’ll connect with you to learn more and help you access resources that support your successful transition to Western.

Admission is based on successful completion of high school. If you don’t graduate, we won’t be able to finalize your enrollment at Western. Our admissions team is here to guide you on a pathway to Western if this becomes a concern.

Yes, private school students can apply using the simplified admissions form, and we will follow up to confirm your admission.

If you qualify for WesternGAP, you won’t need to submit a transcript at the beginning of the process, but we strongly encourage you to provide one early. A transcript confirming high school graduation must be submitted before enrollment at Western. Transcripts are also important for scholarship review, Honors College admission, and Distinguished Scholars consideration.

Yes, you can request a reimbursement by emailing admissions@wwu.edu 

Absolutely. You can complete either the WWU application or the Common App. Based on the information you provide, you’ll be considered for scholarships and Admissions will follow up about additional programs and funding opportunities.

The Washington College Grant Can Cover Your Tuition

The Washington College Grant can cover all or part of tuition at Western Washington University for eligible Washington residents, making a high-quality WWU education more accessible and affordable without repayment.
